Attention Puppy Lovers!

Would you like to help socialize a puppy? Wilderwood Service Dogs is looking for people who can come to their kennel in Maryville TN, or Willisville IL once or twice per week and take a puppy on an outing. The most important thing a service dog needs is to learn is how to handle all kinds of social situations. The best way for them to learn this, is for our volunteers to pick them up and take them somewhere new, for an hour or two. Your commitment would involve:

Picking up a puppy and taking them off the kennel property
Taking them to the store, the park, a restaurant or other public place
Encouraging them to understand and become familiar with many situations
Teaching them how to be calm and confident in social situations
Returning puppy and filling out a brief log of your outing
A commitment of one time per week (approximately 1-2 hours)

All puppy pickups and returns will be supervised by our kennel owners. You will be given suggestions of where to take our puppy and what skills to use while on your outing. This does not require advanced dog training skills, but some familiarity with handling a dog is necessary. Our kennel owners can instruct you as needed. Your puppy will wear an identifying vest, which allows you to enter most public places. This is a great volunteer opportunity for students, scout troops, clubs and seniors.
